There is a theory that the necktie originated from the scarves that Croatian soldiers wore around their necks when they visited France to protect King Louis XIII.
They wrapped scarves around their necks given by their wives and lovers to pray for their safe return.
This is the anecdote that they came to be called Croatian soldiers (cravat).
Even today, in French, a necktie is called a "cravate".
In the 18th century, the style of wrapping a cloth around the neck, not just the cravat, was also used as a weapon and spread to the general public. This type of cravat became a common men's formal attire until around World War I.
In the late 19th century, cravat knots were made in England. This is the bow (bow tie).
